This poem is awesome.

Eating Poetry
by Mark Strand

Ink runs from the corners of my mouth.
There is no happiness like mine.
I have been eating poetry.

The librarian does not believe what she sees.
Her eyes are sad
and she walks with her hands in her dress.

The poems are gone.
The light is dim.
The dogs are on the basement stairs and coming up.

Their eyeballs roll,
their blond legs bum like brush.
The poor librarian begins to stamp her feet and weep.

She does not understand.
When I get on my knees and lick her hand,
she screams.

I am a new man.
I snarl at her and bark.
I romp with joy in the bookish dark.

Tuesday.

I wish I could go back to the 60s or 70s and go see Cat Stevens in concert. His songs make me happy.

"Oh I can't keep it in, I can't keep it in, I've gotta let it out.
I've got to show the world, world's got to see, see all the love
Love that's in me."- Can't Keep it in- Cat Stevens

In other news, I submitted a movie for campus moviefest. The bulk of the weekend was spent filming and directing and editing the movie and it is finally off my hands. I turned it in yesterday. Oh the joy of moviemaking. There was definitely a lot of coffee consumed whilst embroiled in the editing process. In other news, I'm going to finish Lolita this week, dammit. I said that the weekend before last but couldn't finish, and then the movie ate up most of my weekend. So now I must make good on my vow. Argh. I think I should get a dog and name it Cat Stevens. Either that or a really adorable cat. Or maybe a plant? I still need a friend for our other plant, Marcus Flutie.
I do believe that I will be watching Snow White: A Tale of Terror with my roommates tonight. Squee.
Scary Sigourney Weaver, though. I like my Sigourney Weaver tough and awesome, not traumatizing. Oh well.

L is for the way you look at me.

The journey to listen to all the unlistened to music on my itunes goes on. I am rekindling my love for Nat King Cole. Now there was a classy man.
He could sing me the phone book.

Now if only I owned a Christmas album of his. That would be an awesome edition to my collection. Hearing him sing various heartwarming tunes would...well...warm my heart.
Also: the new goal is to acquire more snow white merchandise/awesome things. In case you didn't know- I'm obsessed with snow white. Don't ask for explanations, it is what it is.

Saturday is game day, bitches.

Hello dearest blog!
Despite whatever possessed me to type that title for this blog entry, I am in fact not that spirited. Well, I will shout "GO BEARS!" when provoked, but I could care less about football. Except when we beat Stanford. I enjoyed that victory. Oh how I enjoyed it.

Since I returned home for the summer I have been attempting to label all of my mysterious music on my itunes. I realized I have about a bazillion (and that is an exact count) unlabeled tracks. Yes indeed. And so I began the great mission to label everything. But once I started doing that, I realized I have a shitload of music that I haven't even listened to, and that is terrible of me. So I am attempting to listen to as much of it as possible and label all of it. For some reason I have a ton of unlabeled Supremes music. Not exactly sure when that happened, but oh well.

Anyway...so my first week of classes (school started this week) was actually really good. All of my teachers seem pretty fun and nice, and not at all boring, which is great. There are some pretty cool people in my classes too, and I am pleased to say that two of the conversations I had with people who sit next to me have been about Superbad. Good times.
In other news, I am still totally obsessed with the Best Years. I know it's really melodramatic but it has a pretty interesting heroine. Also, I told myself that I would not develop a crush on the nerdy film boy character- Noah- because that would be so predictable of me. Unfortunately, after many many weeks of resisting it, I now have a full-blown nerd crush on him. Oh well. It can't be helped. He is a good boy and I'll forgive him of his preferring to watch American Pie over Casablanca. I mean, I get that they offer way different things, but c'mon. C'mon, you can't compare those two movies! They're soooo far apart in their scope and subject and I really don't like Jason Biggs. Sorry. Anyway, I can't help it. I realized it the other night when I was watching the newest episode and Devon, his roommate, said that Noah was holed up in their room watching tragic french love movies. Sigh. I would watch Jules and Jim with him any day.

I just discovered that I have "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" sung by Joe Cocker, in my itunes. Awesome. Joe Cocker=the guy who sang the Wonder Years theme song. I'm just saying.

I'm reading Lolita currently and dude. My goal is to finish it this weekend.
In other news, I was overcome by the need to clean today. Which= Laura doing dishes, and neatening up my room. Hey! Neatening is a real word? Wow. My spellchecker isn't underlining it in red, so it must be real. Weird. I thought I made it up. Damn.
I'm seeing Rocket Science on Monday for the second time. I saw it at the LA Film Fest and it is most excellent. Plus, the director, Jeffrey Blitz (Blits? I dunno.) was really articulate and cool. I liked how he answered somebody's question during the Q&A about why he chose to have an omniscient narrator for the movie who wasn't one of the characters. He said something like how he liked to have a voice be able to comment on and guide the story or something even though Hal, the main character (who stutters) has to struggle to find his voice so much throughout the movie- and I mean, literally, he stutters, so it's really hard for him to do that. Excuse me while I geek out like the film nerd that I am.

My current Starbucks drink of choice is the pumpkin spice frappucino. It is most delicious. Also, there is this really awesome baristo at our Starbucks with this awesome mustache. Seriously- it's amazing. I mean, no one can pull off a mustache as well as this guy. Well, I'm sure there's someone- insert name of awesome mustache person here ____________. Alright. If you can think of a good one, I'll give you a gold star. A hypothetical gold star. It'll be magical, I swear.

I want Kelly Link to publish her newest book of short stories now, dammit. She's probably my favorite short story writer ever. Jincy Willett's pretty amazing too. And we can't forget Ray Bradbury. And Stephen King. But the thing with those two titans of fiction is that their amazing novels make me forget the short story awesomeness when considering them. But if Kelly Link wrote a novel, I'd be all over that. Oh yeah. Like honey on my toast. Anyway.

It is time to order pizza. I must go.
Until next time.
Flounder...away!

...bloggity blog blog.
My roommate and I watched Cursed last night. It's a campy favorite of mine- Wes Craven is awesome- and although it generally flew under the radar when it came out, it's pretty smart and entertaining. I just like it because it kinda makes fun of the whole monster movie thing and it pokes fun at Hollywood at the same time. It's smarter than your average bear.
Ahhhh....school starts on Monday and I am not looking forward to the whole getting up early thing. Blegh. I know eventually I'll start to enjoy my classes, but starting them is going to be a hassle. I must drop one class that is totally screwing up my schedule. Meh. Hopefully I'll get to see our friend today who lives up here. I just started reading Lolita, which I should have read long ago, as I have been reminded by my best friend and my roommate and just about the entire world. Anyway...Amy Winehouse's cd Back to Black is amazing. I think her voice is what has been missing from my music. It seriously is the voice I think pop culture/music culture/whatever needed. It's Saturday. Whoopee.

I really love e.e. cummings.

"since feeling is first
who pays any attention
to the syntax of things
will never wholly kiss you;
wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world
my blood approves,
and kisses are a better fate
than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don't cry
-the best gesture of my brain is less than
your eyelids' flutter which says
we are for each other: then
laugh leaning back in my arms
for life's not a paragraph
And death i think is no parenthesis"

So...I have moved into my very first apartment with my lovely roommates. School doesn't start for another week and I plan to milk the last few days of freedom as much as possible. Anyway, in the mean time, I'm probably taking my roommates to see superbad, which will be the third time for me. Hahaha. The second time I saw it, I was with my mother. Talk about awkward. But well, the movie is so over the top dirty that it was somehow not as horribly awkward as say, 8 mile, which I also saw with my mother. Oh dear.

Hmm...

So...This is what it is to have a blog. Um...livejournal is kinda the same thing. Oh well. Have I betrayed my livejournal? :( I guess so. Or I could have this blog on the side. Um...that sounds wrong. I'm sorry for cheating on you, livejournal! But, I thought I'd explore some other options...oh dear, that sounds horrible too. Poor livejournal.
